The Málaga City Council and the Foundation pay tribute to the master portrait painter with the unveiling of a bust in the gardens of Hospital Noble.
Málaga, June 10, 2026. The city of Málaga experienced a historic and deeply emotional day today. Marking exactly one hundred years since the birth of Félix Revello de Toro, the Málaga City Council unveiled a monument in memory of the distinguished Málaga-born painter, one of the most brilliant and beloved figures in contemporary Spanish art.
The monument is located in one of the city’s emblematic settings: the gardens of Hospital Noble, very close to the museum that houses his artistic legacy. The official ceremony was presided over by the Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, accompanied by the Councillor for Culture, Mariana Pineda, and the director of our Foundation and the Revello de Toro Museum, Elías de Mateo, together with numerous figures from the city’s cultural and social spheres.
A Work of Art to Remember the Master
The centerpiece of the monument is an impressive bronze bust created by the renowned Madrid-based sculptor Pilar Españaque, who has masterfully captured Revello de Toro’s clear gaze, sensitivity, and human essence. The sculpture rests on an elegant marble pedestal designed by technical architect Pablo Pastor, giving the ensemble a sober monumentality that blends perfectly into the urban landscape.
During the ceremony, Mayor Francisco de la Torre highlighted “the indelible mark that Revello de Toro has left on Málaga’s artistic heritage and his everlasting generosity in bequeathing his work to the city where he was born.” For his part, Elías de Mateo expressed the Foundation’s deep pride in seeing the affection of the people of Málaga materialized in this enduring memorial space.
A Centenary Full of Cultural Life
This heartfelt tribute is the centerpiece of a broad program of activities organized to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the painter’s birth. In addition to this new landmark on Málaga’s cultural map, the Revello de Toro Museum is holding open days and special guided tours to bring his artistic work closer to all citizens.
National institutions such as ONCE and Correos have also joined the commemoration through the issuance of a commemorative lottery coupon and a special stamp, helping to spread the master’s legacy throughout the country.
